First you must be 18 yrs of age. Second you must prove that no other nonprofit already exists with the same mission statement. Seriously ill children don’t play with toys. There already exists hundreds if not thousands of nonprofits aimed toward sick children

It is very thoughtful of you to want to start this type of organization. Starting a non-profit takes a lot of hard work, not to mention you have to be at least 18 so you can sign the legal documents. Talk to someone at the children’s hospital in your area to see if you can help them conduct a toy drive. If there is not a children’s hospital, check with your local hospital. I’m sure they would be pleased to speak with a motivated teen like you. Yes, even seriously ill children play with toys.

The advantage of working with an established organization like a hospital is they’ve already done this hard work, which lets you focus on collecting toys and promoting the toy drive. You can still accomplish the same goals.

As far as suicide prevention, you can use google to find a bunch of local and national organizations. One is called The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (http://www.afsp.org/). Look for one that has a local group in your area. You can call them to find out how to get involved as a volunteer who does awareness presentations.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.
